Hey there, I’m Timothy, DisCO’s storyteller and scribe! Over the years, I’ve worked as a translator, doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, language teacher, suicide prevention helpline operator and I even had a stint as a surly retail cashier. One of the most important things that these jobs have all taught me is that language really matters, and this is the biggest lesson I bring to the DisCO Project. Whether by documenting our processes or helping people understand how to implement the DisCOs approach, my focus is on finding the right language to tell the story with care.
And now, some answers to questions I know you’ve been dying to ask:
If you had your human head, but the body of an animal, what animal would you pick?
This was decided for me at the Guerrilla Translation (DisCO pilot) relaunch in Hervás. See photo.
Where would you time-travel, if it were possible?
Pre-Christian Ireland. I’d surely be killed or eaten by wolves within 24 hours, but it’d be one fascinating day.
What is your favorite sound and why?
The crinkling sound when you empty the Trash on your desktop. I could listen to it on loop for hours. Wait a minute, am I one of those ASMR people?
If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
The Finnish language…that shit’s complicated!
Do you collect anything?
Grammar books. I have hundreds of grammar books and dictionaries for at least 50 different languages. Unfortunately, most of them are stored in boxes across the ocean, but someday we’ll be reunited and you’ll never see me again…
